Who writes Guardia Boxing

Meet the person who buys, tests and writes everything on Guardia Boxing: where I come from, how I work, and how the self-defense pages are verified.

Updated

Every page on this site carries a name and a date. That’s not decoration. When a site tells you to spend $80 on gloves or to carry a pepper spray, you should be able to see who is talking and what they actually know. Here is the honest answer.

Guillaume Renaud — founder and editor

I’m Guillaume Renaud, and Guardia Boxing is a one-person project: I pick the products, buy them, use them, photograph them and write every line you’ll read here, in English and in French.

Where I’m coming from. I’ve been boxing and training in self-defense for several years. I also hold an elected mandate covering public safety, which is where my interest in the gap between what shops sell and what the law actually permits comes from. The gear reviewed here is gear I use in my own sessions — not opened for a photo and put back in the box.

What I’m not. Not a certified coach, not a lawyer, not a medical professional. My mandate covers public safety, not weapons law or teaching combat sports. Nothing here is legal or medical advice.

How I work. A product lands on my desk because I needed it myself or because readers keep asking about it. I use it on my own bag for weeks before I write a word. No brand reads a verdict before publication, and the gear is bought at retail unless the review says otherwise. The details, including what I can and can’t measure at home, are on How we test.

One author, two languages. The English and French editions are written separately, each in its own language, not translated: the products available on amazon.com and amazon.fr differ, and so does the law. Until a second writer joins, I sign both, with a bio written in each language rather than run through a translator.

How the self-defense pages are verified

Pepper spray, personal alarms, keychain tools: the self-defense section deals with your physical safety and with criminal law. A wrong sentence there can get a reader hurt, or charged.

Plainly: there is no third-party reviewer. This site is run by one person, and I am not going to claim otherwise to look more solid than I am. These pages are written and owned by me, on the strength of my elected mandate covering public safety — which puts me close to the subject without making me a lawyer.

What that means in practice, and what you are entitled to demand:

  • Every legal claim cites its source and the date it was checked. Weapon law changes; an undated page is worthless.
  • Sources are primary — statutes and official texts — never a retailer’s blog, which has an interest in what it sells.
  • Nothing whose possession is unlawful is recommended, however heavily it is searched.
  • This is not legal advice. For your own situation, consult an attorney.

If a lawyer or a credentialed instructor wants to review this section, the door is open: their name will appear in the byline and in the structured data of every page concerned.
