Why Guardia Boxing exists
Your first pair of boxing gloves shouldn’t take three evenings of research. Yet that’s what happens: ounces nobody explains, size charts that contradict each other, and “buying guides” written by the shop that wants to sell you its own stock. Self-defense gear is worse. Products get sold online that are illegal to carry where you live, and most of the pages selling them never mention it.
Guardia Boxing has one job: help you equip yourself and protect yourself without getting ripped off. Not by a retailer, not by a review copied from a product sheet, and not by a law you didn’t know about.
“We” is one person
There is no editorial team here. Everything on this site is bought, used, photographed and written by Guillaume, who runs Guardia Boxing alone. We say “we” out of habit; read it as “I”.
That has a cost: fewer pages, published more slowly. It also has a benefit: no page here was written by someone who never touched the product. You can read exactly how each product is handled on How we test.
How the site makes money
Through affiliate links, and nothing else. When you click a link to Amazon or a specialist retailer and buy something, we earn a small commission. You pay the same price. The full mechanics are on the affiliate disclosure page, and a short notice sits above the first affiliate link on every page that has one — not buried in the footer.
One honest caveat: a commission is a percentage of the price, so a pricier recommendation pays slightly more. That’s precisely why every comparison carries a budget pick, and why we write it plainly when the cheaper product is good enough.
How we stay independent
- We choose what to test. No brand picks the lineup or sees a verdict before it’s live.
- Gear is bought at retail. When a product is loaned, the review says so in its first lines.
- No sponsored articles, no paid placements, no “featured” slots. Ever.
- A product with no affiliate program can still be the top pick. We link the manufacturer instead.
What we don’t do
- Rate a product we haven’t held. Untested products are labeled as such and get no score.
- Give legal advice. The self-defense pages cite the law and its sources; they don’t tell you what you, personally, may carry. For that, ask a lawyer or your local police department.
- Publish text nobody read. Every page passes through a human who used the product. See the editorial policy.
- Sell your data. There’s nothing to sell: see the privacy policy.
Where to start
- Boxing gear: gloves, wraps, mouthguards, bags — tested and compared.
- Training: boxing at home, first workouts, wrapping your hands.
- Self-defense: what works, what’s legal, what to skip.
